What families say

“They treated our family like their own and our situation like it mattered, because to them, it did.”

We can’t thank Callahan Financial Services enough. Navigating Medicaid for a loved one felt overwhelming. The paperwork, the deadlines, and the fear of making a costly mistake were a lot to carry on top of everything else our family was going through. From our first conversation, they put us at ease.

What stood out most was how transparent and communicative they were. They explained every step in plain language, told us exactly what to expect, and never left us wondering where things stood. Our questions were always answered promptly and patiently, no matter how many we had.

Their expertise showed in the result: our Medicaid approval came through, and the relief we felt is hard to put into words. But beyond the professionalism, it was the genuine care that made the difference. They treated our family like their own and our situation like it mattered, because to them, it did.

If you’re facing the maze of elder care planning, don’t wait. Call Callahan Financial Services. We’re so grateful we did.

Geraldine Callahan

Founder & CEO · Senior Care Expert

I used to be a financial advisor. I left because I didn’t want a career built around chasing sales and commissions — I wanted to help people with real, urgent needs, the way the healthcare field I grew up around always had.

Today I bring 20 years of experience spanning financial advising, elder care planning, and Medicaid to every family we work with. Since founding Callahan Financial Services Group, we’ve helped more than 3,500 New Jersey families get approved for Medicaid. My goal is to be a true senior care navigator — one place families can turn to for the whole journey, not just one piece of it.

This page is my favorite part of the website to write, because none of that happens without the team below.

Our team

Meet the people who get it done

Every application that gets approved passes through this team. Here’s a bit about each of them, in Geraldine’s own words.

Geraldine Callahan

Lori has been with us for three years now as our Director of Case Management. She runs the entire process from the inside: making sure every file is airtight before it goes out, reviewing her team’s work before it’s submitted, and staying on with the Medicaid caseworkers until a case reaches final approval.

She’s meticulous — the kind of detail-oriented this work actually requires. One missing document can stall a family’s case for months, and Lori catches what others miss, every time.

Before this, she served 14 years in the military. She brings that same discipline into every file she touches.

What people don’t always see: how kind and patient she is with our families, especially the ones going through the hardest moments of their lives.

This work isn’t easy. I’m lucky to have her, and grateful for her every single day.

Barbara Esteve

As our Medicaid financial analyst, Barbara is the one who goes through every account, every transfer, every gap — line by line, five years back. It’s tedious, exacting work, and there’s no shortcut through it.

She brings 30 years of mortgage banking and underwriting experience to that process. That background shows up in how she works with families: the back-and-forth, the follow-up questions, staying on a client until we have exactly what the file needs.

That’s not red tape. It’s how we catch red flags before they become a denial — and it’s a big part of why our approvals move faster than most.

Barbara doesn’t get the spotlight often. She should.

Maureen LoPresti

Maureen handles client services and support, and she has a gift for it — the kind of warmth that comes through even on a phone call, when a family is already stressed and just needs someone on the other end who sounds like they’ve got it.

Before this, she was a teacher. You can tell. She has that same patience for walking someone through something confusing one step at a time, the same instinct for knowing when a family needs reassurance instead of more information, and the same genuine care for the person in front of her, not just the task.

When families visit the office, she’s the first face they see — and within a few minutes, she’s got them laughing. Her humor puts people at ease at exactly the moment they need it most.

She guides families through onboarding, answers their questions, and when someone starts to fall behind on paperwork, she’s the one calling to check in and nudge them along — not with pressure, with encouragement.

Behind the scenes, she’s just as much a problem solver for me. Whatever needs doing, Maureen takes it on.

She brings a joy to this office that’s hard to describe and easy to feel. We’re better for having her.

Judy Amir, LCSW, CDP

As our Director of Community Liaison, Judy brings decades of experience working with families through some of their hardest moments — calming them, guiding them, meeting them exactly where they are. She’s dementia-certified, and it shows in how naturally she puts people at ease.

She’s also our bridge to the facilities: keeping them updated on where an application stands, answering their questions, and making sure timing stays in sync on both ends.

And then there’s the part that isn’t in any job description — she makes care visits just to stop by and send some love to the elderly clients we serve.

People open up to Judy. You can tell her your whole life story and feel safe doing it — that’s what years as a licensed clinical social worker does for a person. She loves people, genuinely, and she makes friends wherever she goes.

Judy works with our firm as an independent contractor.
